When serious incidents or stressful events occur in the workplace, it can have an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of the team. How can we help?

Research has shown that the best way to process these incidents, is to talk through the sequence of events – with those who experienced it together – because it is only those people who know what it was actually like to be there. Donna Butler Associates has over 20 years experience of facilitating debriefs for frontline services, based in the NHS and with other public services.

Group Debriefs

When incidents occur we can hold experiences in our memory networks and also the trauma can remain in our bodies. It can affect how we feel about ourselves – resulting in, at times, negative beliefs and affecting confidence and performance.

Donna Butler Associates can provide group de briefs to assist in dealing with the impact of these events and can guide you to find ways to move forward healthily, as a team.

The de briefs are provided in a 2 hourly session – in groups of 15 maximum.

Clearly with Covid19 currently active – social distancing and masks are to be worn in the session.

Training sessions

Prevention is far better than cure – ensuring employees have adequate training to manage stress, to maintain resilience and to recognise mental health issues in themselves and others, is vital for a healthy workplace .

Suicidal awareness and risk training, has never been more important than now. We have seen an increase in vulnerability in the Uk population and though it can be frightening to consider these issues, it is important to train employees and managers to know how to manage these situations.

At Donna Butler Associates we are experienced in this field and have recorded training videos for companies on these topics. Most recently with Cross Knowledge – based in Paris.

Wellbeing Retreats and Nature

So why is it good to seek out nature when we experience stress or trauma?

When First World War soldiers returned from combat, many of them were shell – shocked. Many were unable to manage home lives, due to to what we now know was post traumatic stress disorder ( PTSD). The benefits of being in nature have been recognised as being of enormous help for traumatised military personnel, veterans are encouraged to do this, to this day. A 2019 study by the University of Exeter Medical school found that people who spent 120 minutes in nature a week report significantly higher levels of wellbeing than those who don’t .

At Donna Butler Associates we facilitate weekend wellbeing retreats, which can be tailored to groups and individuals .

The retreats provide a mixture of nature and therapeutic intervention; to support and help individuals move through difficulties they may have experienced. This nurturing environment can help to return someone to what they may want to address in life for a healthier and more satisfying future.

Please contact us if you are interested in how this may benefit you, your team, or someone you know.
